Get what you want, the easy way!

I have been thinking a lot lately about how we get from "Point A," to "Point B." What even defines these two mile-posts in our lives? What causes us to recognize that we're at the beginning of something and shows us the path to the next step?

Vision.

The truth is, if you don't have a vision of what you want to be, you'll simply never get to the next level...whether it's losing weight, or being debt free, or becoming a tea-drinker.

I say "vision" rather than "know" for a very specific reason. To know something is to know it in your mind. Like...I know I need to stop eating white sugar. Or, I know I have to clean my apartment. Great. The thought is there in my head but it feels like a big old bag of bricks to drag along behind me.

Now, visualize it - close your eyes for a moment and take a deep breath. Visualize yourself with a clean apartment - what does that feel like? It feels like coming home after a long day and being able to relax. It feels like being able to have friends over without worrying or stressing. Visualize yourself not eating white sugar. It feels like your blood sugar is more stable through the day so you can more easily and gracefully navigate between meals. It feels like your sleeping better so you have more energy to embrace every morning.

We cannot be something that our mind doesn't feel we can be. You can believe you will be a famous movie star in your mind, but if you can't visualize what it feels like, your subconscious will sabotage you -- out of self protection! Our neurological systems are still at the caveman level, and don't know the difference between that life-altering phone call from your agent, and a sabertooth tiger jumping out and trying to eat you.

We all have this pesky internal barometer that keeps us at "the norm," whatever that means for each individual person. The "norm" is built up through years of developing habits and thought-patterns. So, if you're neurological "norm" is to have three maxed out credit cards, and you pay one off...your little barometer will feel like it's out of balance and --- oh! There's that tiger! And oops! You rang up another $1k on that credit card and you don't even know on what!!

Through visualizing yourself the way you want to be, living in the achievement of your goal, your subconscious will start to recognize these feelings as the new "norm" and support you in the pursuit of your goals in ways you won't even recognize right away. You will literally be building new neurological pathways in your noggin' that support your arrival at "Point B."

The best part is....you don't need to carve out any other time to do this. Do it while you're in the shower, or as you fall asleep every night, or when you're waiting at the stop light, or running on the treadmill. Whenever you have a moment to daydream, you can use it proactively to visualize yourself living what you desire. What does it feel like to have what you dream of? Where do you feel it in your body? Describe it to yourself.

This week I encourage you to try this out for 2 minutes every day. What's 2 minutes in the 1,440 of your day? Then, share with me in the comments below all the cool stuff that came up for you in the process!
